FORMS

The current form: brief decription

(remember stances and timing your moves to the music)

1. The Walk on
2. Right leg back, right arm round and down to one knee
3. Up - X block - in - down - round - snap out

4. chop - punch to your left
5. chop - punch to your right
6. punch forwards (Shout)
7. skip front - jump front - spin one knee punch
8. block down both arms
9. chop - punch to right
10. turning kick to the left - tornado kick - punch
11. Arms Xblock down - hands rotate round as you step behind with   your right foot - hands come behind your head and left hand
comes down ready for your main trick (positioned in the corner now)
12. Your big trick coming down ending with a block
13. chop - punch to your right
14. spin hook - cartwheel - punch
15. axe kick facing forwards - feet come together jump kick of your choice - spin punch
16. Hand comes back over your shoulder and down in front of you to finish (shout)

*9-11, 13-14 - when creating your own form and using this one as a template, if you are left footed or do the moves to the other side just remember to reverse the moves in these steps for example for 9. you will chop punch to the right so that you can tornado with your left.*

Tips: Alot of the tricks and combos you learn in the tricks class can be implemented into your form for example the first combo i taught: tornado kick - spin hook - bkick can replace 10. in the current form when making your own form.

12. Your big tricking move coming down can be anything although a cartwheel variation combo works best but as its a setting up move always try to finish it off with like jump front or something similar and try to limit it to a maximum of 3 moves (i myself do two: roundoff - flashkick) A varition of a roundoff backflip is most preferable but here are some ideas if you
can't:

  • Bkick/Aerial (even though these are cartwheel varitations they are still ok to leave it at just them i.e no need to put a jump front at the end)
  • cartwheel - jump front (if possible when doing the jump front kicks twist so you can do it facing forwards)
  • Forward roll - jump splits
  • cartwheel - Forward roll - jump front
  • Jump split kick - Cartwheel - jump front
  • jump split kick - backwards roll - jump front
  • Roundoff - jump front
  • cartwheel - one handed cartwheel - aerial (non handed cartwheel)
  • ....................

remember be creative and after you have thought of a move stick to that and keep drilling it to make it prefect and minimize risk of falling

The form we are learning in class is only a template form and works in the general direction musical forms tend to go in and
once completed we will change moves around in it to add variety, it is designed to give you ideas for your own forms as assuming if you are taking the forms class you will be wanting to eventually join the demo team or compete - See below for information on the demo team and how you go about joining it
.

EXTRA INFORMATION

--------------
Demo Team - Only for those interested in joining the demo team
--------------

Try-outs for the demo team will be selected by the end of the summer holiday, dates will be confirmed at a later date. It is NOT compulsory to try-out but those that do will get the chance to do demos as part of a team and eventually compete around the country at various tournaments and possibly one day compete internationally at the WAKO's that is held in a different country around europe each year.

There will be extra training sessions for demo practice.

Everyone gets the chance to try out which will involve creating and displaying there own musical form at the try-outs.

to make it fair for everyone after the first team is selected we will re-try everyone again about every 3 months afterwards, this will hopefully motivate those that didn't get in to try harder to make the team and those that are already in to fight for there place. So please do not feel disheartened if you are not chosen, its simply about picking the best XMA performers to represent our club/team at the time and will not at all affect your training in the xma classes.

We will be looking for only about 4 people at the moment (not including myself) to join the team but if we feel that we see potential for more or we only see fit for less we will do so and maybe even include reserves. As the skill levels increase during time we will simply add more members to the team.

What we are looking for:
-----------------------------

In class:

  • Attendance: (you will have to attend both xma classes, forms and tricks each week).
  • Attitude
  • Potential

Form (at try-outs):
The criteria we will be marking you on is as follows:

  • Cleanness/technique: How neat and sharp your punches, kicks and stances are
  • Style: Having a unique style that can stand out from others (in a good way)
  • Creativity: Try to think outside the box and differ from the temp form, many possibilities (don't over do it though)
  • Speed: A fast powerful form is better than a slow one but don't sacrafice speed for technique!
  • Balance: Stumbles, slips, falls, hesitation gets marked down - Remeber practice makes perfect
  • Tricks difficulty: The more advance the tricks are the better but try not to go for something that is risky. (A perfectly executed bkick is more preferable than a btwist with a slip or stumble)
  • Music: Your music choice and how you go about timing yourself to it.

tips:

  • please Don't be mistaken for whoever has the best tricks will get in the team, we will choose a clean, sharp creative form with strong basics over one that has lots of tricks but that is poor in other areas.
  • Practice in your own time if possible, you will be very lucky to be chosen if your only xma training is two half an hour sessions a week. It took me 3 hard years to finally get in a team i wanted to be in and i was training everyday.
  • Most importantly......... Have FUN!!
